We had hoped that they were only idle threats but it looks like Angelina Jolie is following through on her comments to lay off acting for the foreseeable future.
While it has been reported that the 39-year-old Oscar-winning actress, UN Ambassador, mother of six and new wife to Hollywood actor Brad Pitt was calling it quits to pursue a career in politics, it’s been revealed that her retirement from acting is actually to allow her to focus on her role on the other side of the camera, in the director’s chair.
Speaking of her decision, the Maleficent star told US publication Du Jour: ‘I’ve never been comfortable as an actor; I’ve never loved being in front of the camera.’
‘I didn’t ever think I could direct, but I hope I’m able to have a career at it because I’m much happier.’
Angelina Jolie first kick-started her directorial dreams back in 2007 when she filmed the the documentary A Place in Time, which she then followed up with In the Land of Blood and Honey in 2011. Now, the starlet is currently promoting her latest directed movie Unbroken, which has so far received rave reviews — not that we doubted its success for a second.
Since tying the knot with Brad back in August, the pair have been busy wrapping Angelina’s new film (in which she stars, writes and directs) By The Sea, which sees the couple act together for the first time since they met and fell in love filming the action comedy, Mr & Mrs Smith.
Well, if there was any way she was going to see out her acting career, we can’t think of a better option than with her hubby by her side.
Angelina Jolie, you’ll definitely be missed.
